Živko Mikić (Serbian Cyrillic: Живко Микић; Banatsko Aranđelovo, Yugoslavia, 28 May 1946 – Belgrade, Serbia, 25 March 2016) was a full professor at the Faculty of Philosophy, University of Belgrade, Department of Archeology, and a prominent physical anthropologist.

Biography[edit]

He was born in Banatsko Aranđelovo, where he also received his primary education. He finished high school in Novi Sad and Kikinda.

Živko Mikić graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade, at the Department of Archeology in 1970. In 1974, he defended his master's thesis "African varieties of diluvial people". He received his doctorate in 1979, with the topic "Anthropological problems of prehistoric populations of the central Balkans from the Neolithic to the end of the La Tène era".

He defended his doctoral dissertation Beitrag zur Antropologie spätrömischer bis zum spätmittelalterlicher Bevölkerungen Jugoslawiens (Contribution to the anthropology of late Roman to late medieval populations of Yugoslavia) at the Gutenberg University in Mainz.

From 1972 to 1985, he was employed at the Balkan Center of the Academy of Sciences and Arts of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo, as a research associate-anthropologist. Since 1985, he has been an associate professor at the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade, and since 1991 a full professor.

He processed and authored many anthropological monographs, articles [1]and books[2]about the remains from archeological sites throughout Serbia and the former Yugoslavia.
