11 Days For Earth's Healing is a global movement organised by "ARDEA Foundation"ARDEAF The idea of this movement struck during COVID-19 lockdown globally when we all saw the stark difference in the sky, water, roads, air that how the lockdown had cleaned up the atmosphere and world started looking much better. Taking that idea forward the founder of the foundation decided to take this clean-up process forward and repeat this every year from 1st May to 11th May worldwide, that's the only way we are going to see the impact of any climate or environmental-related initiative. Individual small initiatives in some parts of the world will not fetch the result that's why 11 Days of voluntary lockdown by the citizen of the earth is the most important action for healing the earth.

1st May to 11th May 2021 was the first edition of the movement after it was planned and announced on 1st May 2020 during COVID-19 lockdown.

Conception[edit]

Over the last few decades, we have mercilessly used up Earth's resources faster than they can be replenished and released pollutants alongside non-recyclable waste faster than they can be absorbed, setting ourselves up for disaster which has been long due. It would be foolish to think we didn't call this upon ourselves. Therefore, the coronavirus pandemic is a sign, a red light to stop exploiting the very planet we inhabit!

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 crisis, the world looks visibly different and not just from space. As most of the human population was under lockdown, the planet was heaving a sigh of relief; the cities were desolate, streets were silent, factories were shut, water bodies were clear and skies were empty.

The pandemic has made us realise that our actions can very well create an impact on Earth's sustainability. It has given us a glimpse of a world we could not dare to dream to live in.

Carbon Emissions[edit]

The global carbon emissions were expected to rise this year but instead might fall by 2.5 billion tons, a reduction of 5%, the lowest level in a decade. In the capital of India, government data shows the average concentration of PM 2.5 dipped by 71% within a week. Globally, countries are experiencing temporary falls in carbon dioxide and nitrogen dioxide of as much as 40%, greatly improving air quality and reducing the risks of respiratory and cardiac ailments.

These tangible improvements have given us hope, making us believe that our planet after all can be restored and with sustained efforts, the ill effects of global warming can begin to reverse.   However, while this unique circumstance is proving to be beneficial temporarily, it will be acutely short-sighted of us to conclude that this has created an ever-lasting impact on the environment. In fact, we can safely assume that emissions will most likely rapidly spike up to previous levels or worse once things start getting back to how they were

The Action[edit]

Each year, beginning 1st May 2021, for 11 days world will refine and re-adjust lifestyle choices to preserve mother nature by voluntarily ceasing all air, road and sea traffic, halting all commercial fishing activities, factories and production units, stopping all construction work and putting a pause on any undertaking that creates a negative impact on our environment.

11 days for Earth's Healing is by no means an appeal to stop living or deriving pleasure from our lives. On the contrary, it is an endeavour to appreciate it. To walk or cycle to your place of work, to go out to the park for a picnic under clearer skies, to go to our favourite outdoor restaurants without having to breathe heavy air and to plan our holidays in advance and experience another country in all its glory. It is a cumulative effort towards restoring our planet from the degradation we cause to it on a day-to-day basis and have been for centuries.

The Critic[edit]

Up until year 2020, slowing down the world for 11 days would have sounded impossible. But from our experience of past two years, the unthinkable is now thinkable. We, the citizens of this world now demand significant action and, governments and their institutions have to wake up to this change. If we don't take action to usher in a global systemic change in the way we operate, the world will go back to unsustainable business as usual rather than emerging with a healthier sense of what is normal. Long-term political decisions have to be made, policies have to be reconsidered, our metrics of success have to be readjusted and some sacrifice has to be made if we want our race to survive and thrive.

In the beginning, this movement bound to receive some resistance, the citizens of this world might feel that they are held captive or this is an unnecessary restriction imposed on their lives, however, like all good things take time, as they should, our long-term vision is to make these 11 days a time of celebration, knowing some good is happening in the world, acknowledging that the air we are breathing is feeling lighter and so is our conscience. ARDEAF encouraging people's voluntary participation than press them to take part out of obligation.

Day-1 "Clean & Heal"[edit]

As the name suggests "Clean & Heal", if we want to heal a wound or a disease the first task is cleaning. We are going by the basic principle of life, let's start cleaning and throw out anything and everything which is stored in our cupboard, our storerooms, our garage, our drawing room, our building, our colony, our work station, our desk, the area where we live or spend maximum time, let's start picking things which are of no use but it's there with we hoping we might need it someday or we have been lazy to not to clean that out of our system. We may be cleaning our homes and officers regularly but things that are unused and have not been touched for months and years are the home to bacteria, unwanted insects, worms & dust also consumes atmospherical energy which could be of our use.

It may sound like an spiritual program and not an environmental or climate change program. Please do not get confused, we are talking about a productive action plan to combat climate change, which every common citizen can perform or at least can get done with the help of others.

When we walk on the street of our vicinity we all have seen an old unused car parked on one corner for years and not been sent to a scrapyard, it's just one of the examples. but once we start noticing this, we will find many such things at our home, at our office also anywhere we go we will find things which should have been scrapped long back but all those things are part of our lives, all those things need to be discarded immediately and clean up the atmosphere where we spend maximum time. There are things which we can clean ourself, things we need authorities to clean, but make sure we take this action today as the beginning of this movement but put this in our lifestyle practice and make sure to stop collecting things that are of no use. There must be things that are part of our emotional memories and that need to be preserved, we must make sure we are dusting those things once a week and not letting unwanted elements to develop their colony close to us.

Let's become more responsible citizen of this planet and make sure all the unwanted elements are out of our sight. if need be we must write to authorities, involve other fellow citizens but become a climate action soldier by performing our responsibility. Hope to notice a positive change around us within one year. Believers in spirituality can follow this practice as spiritual practice doesn't matter, our target is to heal our planet earth, and cleaning of wound need to start from us and from within.
