1997 El Paso Eastwood High School Troopers Season

The 1997 El Paso Eastwood High School Troopers, finished with a record of 2 Wins and 8 Losses. 1997 marked the end of an era, as Head Coach Todd Ware retired at the end of the season, bringing his 19-year coaching stint to a close. Coach Ware’s 1997 team was only a one game improvement over the 1996 team that finished 1 and 9. The team’s low point was blow-out by the surprising Odessa High Broncho’s 56-7. The team did manage to defeat their division rival El Paso Del Valle by a score of 30-8; Del Valle’s offense was coached by assistant Chuck Veliz, who went on to have a successful career in El Paso Highschool Football. The head coaching torch was passed on to offensive coordinator Wade Ardoin, who would coach the Troopers for the next twelve seasons.
