On 27 December 2017, a terrorist attack using an explosive device took place in the Perekresto supermarket in Saint Petersburg, Russia.[2][3][4][5] Eighteen people in total were hurt and no one died. President of Russia Vladimir Putin said that the act was a "terrorist attack" and the Islamic State claimed responsibility for the attack, but provided no evidence.

Three days later, on December 30, the authorities announced the capture of a suspect, although they did not provide an identity.[6][7][8][9]
