The 2017 State Senate Election for New Jersey's 24th District was held on November 7, 2017 alongside the 2017 New Jersey Gubernatorial Election. The general election was held between incumbent Senator Steve Oroho and democrat Jennifer Hamilton. Steve Oroho won re-election handily.

Primary Elections[edit]

The Primary Elections where held on June 6, 2017. Steve Oroho won the republican primary and Jennifer Hamilton won the democratic primary.

Republican primary[edit]

Incumbent Assemblywoman Gail Phoebus did not run for re-election in the assembly, as she ran for Oroho's seat in the senate. Citing his support of the gas tax.[1] However she quickly withdrew from the primary.[2] Oroho easily won the primary after that.

Jennifer Hamilton ran unopposed in the primary, and easily became the nominee.

General Election[edit]

In the election, which took place alongside the 2017 General Assembly election for New Jersey's 24th District the republican candidates ran as a team. The talking points of the elections was the gas tax and Assemblyman Parker Space's controversial comments.[5] The democrats in this race, and across the district, did much better than the previous election. Jennifer Hamilton picked up 6,468 votes than the previous democrat nominee. However Steve Oroho still won re-election easily remaining the state senator for the 24th Legislative District.
