Allen Aaron Cook was born in Chenango County, New York 20 April 1832. He died in Shingle Springs, El Dorado County, California, 12 February 1899 and he is buried in the Old Sacramento City Cemetery. He grew up in Albany, NY and was apprenticed as a carpenter and Joiner and he also took lessons in Architecture. He was located in Kalamazoo, Michigan for a time, also in Johnson Missouri, and Douglas, Nebraska. Later in 1870 he located to Sacramento, California. He set up an office at 627 J Street and maintained an Architectural firm and Building Contractors business. He became very prominent in his trade and drafted plans and superintended the building of many prominent buildings in California. many of these buildings have remained to this date and many are listed on State and Federal Historic Preservation listings.
