The American Medical Group Association (AMGA) is a nonprofit trade association headquartered in Alexandria, VA. AMGA represents the interests of multi-specialty medical groups and integrated health systems in the United States[1].

History[edit]

AMGA was born out of a desire for physicians practicing in groups to share best practices, experiences, and strategies with one another[2]. In 1974, the association was renamed the American Group Practice Association. In 1996 it merged with the Unified Medical Group Association to form the American Medical Group Association.

In 2016, the American Medical Group Association re-branded as "AMGA," adding the tagline “Advancing High Performing Health,” to better reflect the changes in the organization and its members, as well as align AMGA and its divisions around a its mission.

AMGA Foundation[edit]

AMGA Foundation is the philanthropic arm of AMGA. It helps members improve their population health management efforts through the sharing of quantitative data across integrated delivery systems[3]. AMGA Foundation manages three programs: Diabetes: Together 2 Goal®, the Acclaim Award, and Best Practices Learning Collaboratives.

Diabetes: Together 2 Goal Campaign[edit]

Together 2 Goal is a three-year national campaign created by the AMGA Foundation to improve care by 2019 for the millions of people affected by type 2 diabetes. It consists of over 100 medical groups, non-profits, health systems, and corporations, including the American Diabetes Association, American Association of Diabetes Educators, Novo Nordisk, Inc., and Geisinger Health[4]

AMGA Analytics, LLC[edit]

AMGA Analytics is an incorporated subsidiary of AMGA. It provides AMGA's member organizations with resources for data analysis and clinical translation, including data support, research and translation, and quality measurement. It also hosts the learning collaborative, Analytics for Improvement (A4i), to help AMGA members improve care for their patient populations through comparative clinical analytics[5]. A4i is conducted in partnership with Optum.

AMGA Analytics also conducts the AMGA Provider and Employee Satisfaction Benchmarking Program, which provides peer-based benchmarks on physician and staff satisfaction and engagement.

AMGA Consulting[edit]

AMGA Consulting is an independent, professional services company operating under the AMGA brand. Its clients are both members and non-AMGA members. AMGA Consulting publishes AMGA's annual Medical Group Compensation and Productivity Survey, which reports data submitted by member medical groups to help them determine physician compensation and productivity and identify trends.

AMGA Consulting also conducts annual surveys on medical group finance and operations and on executive and leadership compensation.
