AZO GmbH + Co. KG is a worldwide firm, founded in Germany, established in the year 1949 by Adolf Zimmermann...[1]. TThe firm operates in the areas of planning, production and assembly of machines. They are also involved in the automation of processes for storing, discharging, screening, conveying[2] and dosing. The firm focuses on the automation of processes for bulk materials[3] and powdered components[4].

The AZO GmbH + Co. KG network of companies has its headquarters in Osterburken and operates worldwide with offices in Belgium, France, People's Republic of China, Russia, Thailand, United Kingdom and the USA.[5]

Currently, AZO GmbH + Co. KG is run by Rainer Zimmermann[6], the son of the company founder. In 2016, 180 million euros of sales were generated worldwide[7]. The AZO Group employs over 1030 people as of 10/25/2017[8].

Company[edit]

AZO GmbH + Co. KG was originally founded as a mill construction company in Osterburken by Adolf Zimmermann and his wife Marianne in 1949[9].

AZO GmbH + Co. KG started with the creation of flour, sieve, loosening and temperature control systems for the bakery trade and bread industry.

In 1963, the company grew to 80 employees. Additionaly, the company branched out into creating pneumatic suction weighing systems (for feeding kneaders)[10][11], mixers and silos (for shell construction). These systems used a standardised modular system.

In 1978 an international office in Memphis (Tennessee) was opened. Since 1979 AZO GmbH + Co. KG has also developed complex contactor controls.

In 1980 AZO GmbH + Co. KG began the construction of electronic weighing controllers[12], including systems for fully automatic dosing[13].

In 1987, Adolf Zimmermann, the company founder, was awarded honorary citizenship of the city of Osterburken for his years of participation in the municipal council and for his entrepreneurial activity. In 1988 he received the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany[14].

Developments from 1990[edit]

During January 1st, 1990 to December 31st, 2017 the company AZO GmbH + Co. KG was headed by Adolf Zimmermann’s Sons Robert and Rainer. With Denise Zimmermann joining in 2011[15].

Adolf Zimmermann, company founder, died on 15th, March 2013 (age 90)[16]

Since January 1st, 2018 Rainer Zimmermann has been the sole managing director of the AZO Group[17]

Company Structure[edit]

In the year 2014, the firm “hsh-systeme für prozess-IT GmbH”, a process engineering and visualization technology company, was integrated into the AZO Group[18]. In 2008, the firm “zoatec GmbH”, for liquid and semi-solid goods, was created in Neuenburg.

Since the introduction of a new corporate identity within the AZO group in 2013, the sister companies have been listed as AZO CONTROLS GmbH (previously hsh-systems) and AZO LIQUIDS GmbH (previously zoatec).

The AZO Group currently employs 1038 people (as of January 2017) and generated 180 Million Euros worldwide in 2016[19]
