A.MAZE is a label that started in 2008. Their first festival was in Berlin. Their aim is to focus on Arthouse video games and playful/interactive media. Started by Thorsten Wiedemann & Michael Liebe, two former game journalists.[1]
Notable winners & nominees include:
- Attentat 1942 for Most Amazing Game at A MAZE. / Berlin 2018
- Cosmic Top Secret (video game) for Most Amazing Game at A MAZE. / Berlin 2016
- Everything is Going to be OK for Digital Moment Award at A MAZE. / Berlin 2016
- The Longing for Long Feature Award at A MAZE. / Berlin 2019
In Berlin, the festival is regularly a part of the Gamesweek berlin.[2] Since 2012, the festival also got an edition in Johannesburg, South Africa, as A MAZE. Interact.[3]
During the pandemic A MAZE. / Berlin 2020 switched to a complete digital event with a virtual exhibition space where people could join called the A MAZE. / SPACE.[4] In 2022 they switched back to a full day program in Berlin and online program before that[5].
A MAZE. has also published four editions of the A MAZE. Magazine. Each one focused on a certain subject.
