Abdullah Kalta was a Taliban commander who is believed responsible for the deaths of three New Zealand troops: Lance Corporal Jacinda Baker, Private Richard Harris, and Corporal Luke Tamatea when their vehicle was hit by an IED. Corporal Baker was New Zealands first female death since females were allowed to fight in combat roles in 2000.
Prime Minister John Key confirmed that he had been killed by a coalition airstrike in November 2012.
