Biography[edit]

Adam Mark Herman was born in Quincy, Illinois and grew up in Sedalia, Missouri. There he met Jim Campbell and they began writing songs together. The two of them eventually moved to Denver, Colorado and formed the band James & The Devil in 2003.

James & The Devil released multiple bootleg albums and their first official studio album was released in 2007. Herman left the group in 2008 and moved to Virginia, Minnesota. He put together The Slamming Doors in 2012[1] and has since released three studio albums, and one live album. As of 2018, the band is composed of Herman (guitar and vocals), Matt Johnson (drums) and Ben Anderson (bass guitar).

The music of The Slamming Doors has been described "for people who like Alan Jackson but also like Phish and gospel music."[2]

In March 2018, Herman published Limbo, An Odd Novel. It is a fictional comedy about a journey through the afterlife.[3]

Herman has one daughter and as of 2018, lives in Duluth, Minnesota.
