Adawia A. Alousi
Adawia Adawia Alousi (1931-2010) was an Iraqi-born Muslim woman who was the lead scientist in developing a class of drugs (inotropes), which increased the contractility of heart muscles in people with congestive heart failure. She was an expert in sodium-potassium channels, and developed the drug Milrinone, which was approved by the FDA in the early 1980s. She advocated for womens' rights in science, and at her death left a scholarship fund for Muslim-American women studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics.[1][2]
