Adeline Umubyeyi
Adeline Umubyeyi (French: Ah-de-leen, Kinyarwanda: Oo-mu-byay-ee) is a Rwandan-American beauty pageant title-holder and Rwandan-American model. Adeline was chosen as Miss Rwanda USA in the Miss Africa USA beauty pageant in 2014.
Early Years[edit]
Adeline was born to Rwandan parents on July 14, 1994 in Rwanda, during the Rwandan Genocide which left over one million people dead, including members of her family. Adeline and her family were granted asylum to the United States in 1996 where her family located to the Washington D.C. area. After 8 years, Adeline and her family moved to Miami, Florida. She attended multiple charter schools in the area. In 2008, Adeline and her family moved to Frisco, Texas. After one year, her family moved back to the Washington, D.C. area where she currently resides.
Career[edit]
Adeline received her Associates degree while at Northern Virginia Community College in 2014. She is currently studying International Affairs with a concentration in International Economics and a focus in Urban Development at The George Washington University. Adeline co-heads the African branch of No Lost Generation student organization on campus. She has been working as a Graduate Admissions Assistant in The George Washington School of Business since August of 2015. In April of 2016, Adeline was brought on board as a Strategy Analyst/Research Associate for The World Bank Group-IMF Young African Society's Youth Observatory.
Adeline considers herself a miracle child as her mother gave birth to her during the war and without medical attention. Adeline believes that every individual has a purpose in life and that God does not make mistakes when it comes to the creation of his children. Her purpose is to create a change in the world through human rights advocacy and the eradication of poverty in Rwanda as well as Africa.
Adeline has spoken at several events and Universities alongside policy makers on genocide in Washington D.C. and New York.
