Adjustable Censorship

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Adjustable censorship or optional censorship is the possibility, in video-games mostly, to turn mature (i.e., sexually explicit or violent) content on or off.[1][2]. This can be achieved through toggles or cheat codes (such as with the first Mortal Kombat[3]) and aims at making the content more family-friendly. Very often, this is done by reducingthe amount of blood (from gore to no blood at all), changing its color[4], or even totally replacing blood by something else.[5]

Noteworthy, this form of censorship is also adopted with other media. Some DVD releases include the option to switch off the bad language (e.g., Family Guy[6]). Some movies also used color alteration to dampen the violence of some scene: in Kill Bill: Volume 1,Quentin Tarantino was forced to censor some scene and chose to do it with black and white[7]
