Afreen (film) is a 2018 action drama produced by a Canadian independent film studio Media Factory International. Directed, produced and edited by Aashish Chanana[1]. Co-written by Aashish Chanana and Mike Smith.

The film premiered in 23 May 2018 at Madrid International Film Festival[2] and gained positive responses at film festivals internationally[3][4].

Plot[edit | edit source]

The film tells a story of Afreen - an Iraqi immigrant to Canada who becomes recruited into a local religious terrorist organization and participates in plotting a terrorist attack. Afreen is motivated by a search for revenge for sexual abuse from American soldiers she experienced while living in Iraq.

Production[edit | edit source]

The principal photography took place in Ontario and parts of Toronto in July - August 2017.

The script has been changed multiple times and is loosely based on interviews with ex-radicalized Muslims and real terrorist attacks.[5]
