Shahid Chamran University of Ahvaz was constructed in 1955. It consists of 15 faculties and some of them were designed by famous architects; Andre Godard and Kamran Diba. That’s why the architecture is often talked about. Literature, mathematics, agriculture and medical science were the first disciplines to be taught there and the faculty of agriculture was the first place to be established. This faculty was a pioneer in agriculture studies and still remains one of the best in the country. 38 agriculture students were the first ones to celebrate their graduation in June 1958. The new building of the agriculture faculty was constructed in 1973 by Modam office due to the lack of space and the students’ need of a permanent study place. The area of agriculture faculty is 19000 square meters and there are several greenhouses around it. The materials used in the building have a high heat capacity in order to be adaptable to the warm climate of Ahvaz. After entering the building the user finds himself in a linked in space between two main hallways that give access to the library, amphitheater and prayer room. At each ends of the main axis there are two smaller hallways leading to the classes and laboratories. The building also consists of three courtyards full of trees, providing shadows over the benches. The floor of the courtyard is covered with hexagonal concrete tiles and the surrounding walls are made of bricks. There are thin brick walls in front of the bathroom doors in order to provide privacy. Having several corridors the design seems to have been inspired by Iranian historical bazaars.
