Ajay Singh is an Indian born Weightlifter who has won the Gold medal at the Commonwealth Junior Championships, 2017 in the 77Kg category[2]. He is supported by the GoSports Foundation through the Rahul Dravid Athlete Mentorship Programme

Early life and background[edit | edit source]

Born on 17th April 1997, in Rajasthan. Ajay’s father is an ex-military officer and his mother is a housewife. He has a younger sister who is doing her graduation and a brother who is also an army official. Ajay is currently employed by the Army and trains at the Army Sports Institute in Pune, Maharashtra.[3]

Career[edit | edit source]

Ajay has always been keen about sports – before weightlifting, he tried his hand at 20km race walking. But his coaches found his talent more suited for weightlifting and recommended him to take up the sports professionally. Apart from clinching the gold at the Commonwealth championships, Ajay has also clinched the bronze medal in Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships, 2017 in Kathmandu Nepal.
