Alejandra Hou
Sonia Alejandra Hou Yau (born October 13, 1994), known professionally as Alejandra Hou, is a Panamanian film director. She started as a singer and songwriter where she directed and edited her music videos at the age of 12.
Years later, in 2017, she moved to Los Angeles to pursue what would be her biggest passion, filmmaking. Leading her to win her first five awards with her first short film called "Pulse" in categories such as––Best Female Director, Best LGBT Short, and Best Short Film. Ultimately, it encourage her to do her biggest short film as a student which was her thesis titled "Inside the Notebook." A drama/fantasy short that has won so far 12 awards.
Personal Life[edit]
As a multicultural raised person born in Panama and raised by Chinese parents, Alejandra has a mixture of Latino and Chinese culture. She grew up in a traditional Chinese environment where she dedicated her life in the family business and school.
In 2013, one of her YouTube covers reached 15,000 views in one week, gaining attraction from people around the world such as Spain, Colombia, Peru, Mexico, etc., specially the Chinese community from Panama. After that, Alejandra Hou released her first single called "Has Cambiado" in 2014 and was hired to sing in weddings, private meetings, talent shows, and a beauty contest called "Reina China Panama" (Miss China Panama).
Alejandra, after everything she went through with her family and their strict rules, she didn't quiet feel complete. Deeply inside, she felt the urge to tell stories visually, that's when she decided to move to Los Angeles in 2017 to pursue what she always wanted to be, a filmmaker. This led her to enroll at The Los Angeles Film School, where she started to get more involved in the filmmaking process, but specifically finding a huge passion for directing, editing, and writing.
She is currently working as Production Assistant on a show called "TuNight con Omar Chaparro" and "Tengo Talento Mucho Talento" by Estrella Media.
