Alejandro Guillermo Roemmers(Buenos Aires, Argentina, February 11, 1958) is an Argentine writer and businessman from the pharmaceutical industry. He is the son of Alberto W. H. Roemmers and Hebe Colman, being his grandfather Alberto Roemmers, founder of the Roemmers laboratory, one of the main Argentine laboratories, and Candelaria Wolter. The Argentine Society of Writers (SADE) has appointed him ambassador of Argentine letters for his transcendence as a writer.

He currently chairs the Argentina Foundation for Poetry, is also Honorary President of the American Poetry Foundation, Member of the Royal Institute of Culture of Mexico and Honorary Member of the Literary Institute and Hispanic Culture.[1]

Biography[edit]

During his adolescence he lived and studied in Spain, a country to which he dedicated many poems, for which he received, in 1977, the Second Poetry Prize, awarded by the Autonomous University of Madrid, when he was only 19 years old.

His first book is entitled "Soñadores, Soñad" and contains the poems he wrote during his adolescence, including those he dedicated to Spain. Since then, parallel to his career as an entrepreneur and to the present, he has not stopped writing, publishing books, receiving awards and honors in various parts of the world, such as Spain, Mexico, Italy and Chile.

In these years of residence he dedicated numerous poems to Spain, several of which are in his first book, "Soñadores, Soñad", which brings together poems written between fourteen and twenty. Since then his poetry has been the object of numerous distinctions and publications and included in anthologies of American poetry.

In 1995 he published "Ancla Fugaz" and in 1996 he was invited to present his collection of poems "Spain in me" at the National Library of Madrid, to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the death of Jorge Luis Borges. In October 1999 Proa magazine awarded him a medal in recognition of his work. In 2001 he published his book "Más Allá" in Buenos Aires, then presented at the National Library of Santiago de Chile and, in May 2003, the Secretary of State for Culture of Spain - Mr. Luis Alberto de Cuenca y Prado - presented it at Madrid.

In 2006, also in Madrid, he presents a collection of "Poemas Elegidos", edited by Huerga y Fierro and is the first Spanish-American author to be awarded the "Cultura Viva" prize in the poetry category. Also, an International Jury of the Hispanic Literary and Cultural Institute of California State University unanimously distinguishes it with the "Alba de América" ​​award. The same year he presents his poetry collection "Como la Arena", in Mexico, in Chile, where he is distinguished as an honorary member of the University of the Andes, and in Spain, where he deserves the International Sial Award.

In mid-June of that year he was invited as a representative of the Argentine poets to speak at the Library of Alexandria in Egypt, twenty years after the death of Jorge Luis Borges. On October 10, he presents "Como la Arena" at the Thyssen Bornemisza Museum in Madrid.

The Secretary of State for Culture of Spain, Mr. Luis Alberto de Cuenca Prado, invited him to present his book "Más Allá" at the National Library of Madrid, in 2003. He was also invited to present it at the National Library of Santiago of Chile. Roemmers collaborates in several literary magazines and participates in congresses, forums and awards, not only in Argentina but in many parts of the world. He has been invited to speak about Jorge Luis Borges in various tributes and anniversaries of his death.

Her poems have been translated into several languages ​​and she has published bilingual books, such as her work "La Túnica Sensual", published in Italian and Spanish. He has also ventured into the genre novel, with his book "El Regreso del Joven Principe" which recounts the return of the Little Prince to Earth and that happens in the Argentine Patagonia, where a man who travels alone meets him, that starts a wonderful story that is clearly the continuation of The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. "The return of the Young Prince" was chosen best novel in 2009 by the Argentine Society of Writers S.A.D.E., has also been translated and edited in several countries and carries a huge number of copies sold.[2] Finally we must mention another genre, in which he has stood out as author, it is the musical Franciscus, a reason to live, which tells the story of Saint Francis of Assisi.[3]

In November 2008 he presented his book of spiritual character "The Return of the Young Prince", which quickly became a sales success in Argentina. This work has been considered by the descendants of Antoine de Saint-Exupery as a spiritual complement to "The Little Prince". Both the Honorable Congress of the Nation and the Ministry of Education have highlighted the importance of this book, which is being gradually introduced into educational plans for the promotion of human values ​​in the training of young people. Days later, he received the "Miguel Hernández" award for his poetic career in Orihuela. He has also been honored by the Honorable Chamber of Deputies of the Nation in recognition of his contribution to Argentine culture and literature. In March 2010, the Legislature of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires named him Outstanding Personality of Culture, declaring his work "The Return of the Young Prince" of cultural interest for the City of Buenos Aires. In May of the same year he received recognition for his career at the UNAM (Autonomous University of Mexico). In October he was distinguished with the title of "Honorary Professor" by the University of La Matanza, Argentina. The International Fund of the Arts of Madrid, Spain, awarded him the Annual Distinction for his literary career on June 1, 2011.

Currently, his work "The Return of the Young Prince" is translated into more than thirty languages, including Russian and Chinese. Likewise, Alejandro was invited by the Chancellery as a representative poet of Argentina for the events in Belo Horizonte from November 22 to 24, 2011. On September 18, 2013, he personally delivered to His Holiness, Pope Francisco, the poem "Un regalo for Francisco ", dedicated especially to the Holy Father and that went viral in the Argentine social networks, read by Arturo Puig, accompanied on the piano by Alejandro Lerner.

On April 22, 2014, he presented his book "La Mirada Impar" in Buenos Aires, which was awarded the Faja de Honor by the Argentine Society of Writers (SADE). He is also the author of "Spain in me and other poems", edited by Renacimiento in Spain, which was presented in Madrid in 2016, and in Orihuela, Oviedo and Seville in 2017. Also in 2016 he gets the annual grand prize of the Latin American Institute of Culture Hispanic (ILCH). He has been the author and alma mater of the musical work "Franciscus", based on the life of San Francisco de Asís, winner of the ACE Award (Association of Spectacle Cronists) in 2016, with the Santa Clara de Asís prize in 2017 and which was One year at the Broadway theater in Buenos Aires with great public success. He was invited to speak at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Salamanca, which later designated him Guest of Honor.

Recently, Prosa Editores published the book "A Poet for the 21st Century", which gathers interviews, critiques, comments and testimonies about his work. In 2017 he received a distinction for his poetic career by the Miguel Hernández Foundation and the Roa Bastos award, granted by the government of Paraguay. Also, in August of last year was awarded in Madrid with the prize "Dámaso Alonso", awarded by the Hispano-American Academy of Good Arts.

Alejandro Guillermo Roemmers is President of the Argentina Foundation for Poetry and Honorary President of the American Poetry Association. He has been appointed a Member of the Royal Institute of Culture of Mexico and an Honorary Member of the ILCH. Likewise, SADE has distinguished it with the appointment of Ambassador of Argentine Letters.

Make talks and debates in universities and schools in Latin America. In October and November of 2018 his work "Sinfonía Argentina", of which he is co-author with Daniel Doura, was presented in Téplice and Prague (Czech Republic) and Munich (Germany), with great public success. He is audiovisual producer of audiovisual content for platforms in Spain and Argentina.
