Alen Abaz, born in Sarajevo, is a professional basketball coach and former player. Currently employed as assistant coach at Bosnian national basketball team.

Career information[edit]

Growing up in Bosnia and Herzegovina he started training basketball in KK Bosna Royal where he attended in all youth selection and later on as a senior player and coach. During the Bosnian War he moved to Germany where he played for Tigers Tübingen in 1992. In 1993 he signed for Antalya Buyuksehir Belediyesi.Coming back to Germany in 1994 he played two more years for B.C. Rottenburg. Upon returning to his hometown in 1997 he signed a two years contract for KK Bosna Royal. After invitation from the Sports director Mirza Delibasic he continued his work in KK Bosna Royal as youth selection basketball coach during 1999-2002. In 2002 KK Bosna Royal head coach Hamdo Frljak promoted him to assistant coach in a senior team. Recognized for his work and knowledge later on by Mensur Bajramovic, Nenad Markovic and Jure Zdovc he was promoted to a head coach in 2008.[1] During this period of time 2002-2008 KK Bosna Royal was three times champion of Basketball Championship of Bosnia and Herzegovina[2] , two times Mirza Delibasic Cup finalist, reached ABA League final eight and participated in Euro Cup Basketball . He also participated and completed a three year basketball seminar with  https://www.fiba.basketball/coaches/europe-coaching-certificate under the mentorship of Svetislav Pesic. By the end of 2008 he left KK Bosna Royal and continued his international coaching career in Lebanese Basketball League, where he coached 6 different clubs in in the period of ten years.[3] During the season 2013-2014 he was able to bring Homenetmen Beirut basketball team to the first division.

Basketball Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina appointed him as U-20 Head coach.[4] With great ambitions, under his leadership, the team won FIBA U20 European Championship division B and qualified to a division A.[5]

After taking a position as a head coach at Al Mouttahed Tripoli in years 2014-2017, he brought them to the final four tournament. His next basketball station was at Al-Muharraq_SCin Bahrain where he led his team to the super cup finals.[6]

In 2019 he moved to Germany an signed a three years contract with Baskets Oldenburg as an assistant coach.[7] After three years as an assistant coach he was appointed a head coach.[8]
