Career[edit]

Initial struggles
In an interview with Mumbai Mirror, Gandotra stated that he was 105 kg when he moved to Mumbai and started working out to lose all the weight, in order to become a model.[2] Gandotra began his film career with a cameo appearance, playing the role of a student in Rani Mukerjee's comeback film Hichki. Speaking about the role, Gandotra said "I did not even ask about my role, payment and readily agreed to do the film, as it was an exciting offer."[3]

India's Next Superstars

Gandotra successfully auditioned and was chosen as 1 of 24 contestants for the talent-searching reality show India's Next Superstars. He alongside the rest of the contestants were trained in the India's Next Superstars Paathshala by casting director Mukesh Chabra and director Mahesh Bhatt. Gandotra struggled during the show and was often placed in the bottom two. In an interview about his slow start on the show and verge of eviction Gandotra noted that the Salim-Anarkali performance was a "turning point". "[3] He also stated that it was his "confidence [and] faith through [his] hard work" that got him far. "[3] Gandotra won the show and signed a 3 contract film deal with Dharma Productions (owned by Karan Johar) and will be cast opposite female winner Natasha Bharadwaj in a film, directed by Johar and other judge Rohit Shetty. Gandotra also won a 10 lakh cheque from Star Plus. In an interview with Times of India, Gandotra stated that his future plans are now to "direct all my focus and hard work towards [his film career]."[4]
