Amber Donoso (born 14 May 1996)[3] is a Chilean-British reggaeton singer and songwriter[4] from London, England.

In July 2019, she released her single, "Dirty Dancing"[5] and her follow up single "Cheer You Up"[6] in December 2019.

Early life[edit]

She is the daughter of British model Lisa Butcher and Chilean polo player Gabriel Donoso[7]. Her sister Olivia Donoso[8] is a model.

In 2020, in an interview with The Guardian, Amber said “I spent half of my childhood on a farm in Chile with my father and the other half with my mother in London, after my father passed away I was spending more and more time in the UK. I noticed how much I missed that culture. I didn't have any Latino friends in the UK and have recently realised how much I needed it – being a reggaeton artist is an amazing way to be able to share our culture and music.”[9]

Musical style and genres[edit]

After the release of "Dirty Dancing" in summer 2019, her sound was described as "urban pop"[10]. Later that year, Donoso released “Cheer You Up”, debuting a new Latin-inspired sound[11]. The single was recorded in Rebel 11 Studios[12] in Miami. Released on 11th December 2019, the song stoked anticipation for new music, targeted towards Latin America, North America, and UK audiences, and was described as "music that colours the kinetic rhythms and rapturous spirit of reggaeton with neon-bright shades of R&B and pop."[13]

In February 2020, Amber told People en Español: "I just hope that people begin to understand my art through [Cheer You Up] and the sound it represents. I am very excited to be part of the movement, bringing Latin music and reggaeton to the whole of the UK."[14]

She sings in both Spanish and English.[15]

Influences[edit]

Donoso's musical influences include J Balvin, Ozuna, Daddy Yankee[16], Shakira, Lauryn Hill, Kehlani[17] and Gwen Stefani.
