Amilkar Velez-Lopez

Amilkar Velez-Lopez (born in Adjuntas, Puerto Rico), is an attorney and was a municipal judge in the Municipal Court of Newark, N.J. and the Central Judicial Processing (CJP) Court of Essex County until 2011. [1] His parents were América López de Vélez, and Miguel S. Vélez. He graduated cum laude, from the Seton Hall Law School University, and was been admitted to practice law in New Jersey in 1980. Also he holds a Master's degree in Social Work from Columbia University and a Bachelor of Arts from InterAmerican University in San German, Puerto Rico.

He was co-founder of the BORIQUEN ASPIRA Society Club (1964), co-founder of CASA DON PEDRO, Inc. (1972) and of the Rehabilitation Program C.U.R.A., Inc. (1977). In addition, he co-founded the Newark (NJ) Borinquen Lions Club, the Association of Puerto Rican Educators, the Hispanic Lawyers Association of New Jersey, the OYE Program, the Escuelita Ramón Betances, PRCFP Paterson among many other organizations.[2]
