Andrew Herr (born May 25, 1991) is a Canadian actor. He is best known for his roles as Jonesy on the comedy series Letterkenny[1] and as Mark Howe in the television movie Mr. Hockey: The Gordie Howe Story. His other credits include Zapped, The Unauthorized Saved By the Bell Story, Goon: Last of the Enforcers, and Adventures in Public School.

Early Life and Education[edit]

Herr was born in London, Ontario, Canada[2]. At the age of two, Herr's family moved to the small town of St. George, Ontario and he credits his experience in this small town to allowing him to further relate to his character of Jonesey in the comedy series Letterkenny, which is set in a fictitious small Ontario town[1]. In his final year of high school, Herr's family relocated to Kingston, Ontario. It was during his grade twelve year at Regiopolis-Notre Dame Catholic High School that he first gained an interest in acting when he starred in a high school theatre production of "Never Swim Alone" at the Sears Drama Festival.

Throughout his youth, Herr was an avid hockey player, going as far as competing at Junior C and Junior A levels with the EBJCHL's Napanee Raiders and the OJHL's Kingston Voyageurs. Herr plays as a forward.[2]

After graduating high school, Herr moved to Vancouver, British Columbia to attend the University of British Columbia (UBC). During this time at UBC, Herr became a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity[3][4]. Herr also took courses at VanArts.

Personal Life[edit]

It was in Vancouver that Herr met many of his Letterkenny co-stars, including Dylan Playfair who plays the other half of his on-screen hockey "bromance" duo, Riley. Herr and Playfair were, for a time, roommates[5]. Also while living in Vancouver, Herr and Playfair played on a casual beer league hockey team with Tyler Johnston and Nathan Dales, who are also co-stars on Letterkenny[6].

In addition to playing hockey, Herr is trained in Muay Thai and jiu jitsu. He additionally trained in boxing for a few years but personally claims to be "not that good" and mostly took up boxing to assist with bettering his cardio for his hockey career. In an interview with Vice, Herr admitted to having a history of being a fighter including once getting into a brawl on the front lawn of his fraternity house at UBC[7].

"...I've got to clarify: I didn't outmaneuver a dude with a knife. I was one of the people who was fighting. It was literally ten versus three. These three guys came in our frat house and they were being inappropriate. One guy knocked my friend Mitch out and he said he had a knife, so a bunch of us converged on him and I just put the guy in a choke and put him to sleep..." -Andrew Herr, Vice[7]

Herr currently lives in Toronto with his girlfriend[8].
