The Anglo-Akali War was a small military conflict between the Shaheedan Misl and the British East India Company that took place in 1799. This conflict is mischievously hidden by British sources.

Battle[edit]

Akali Naina Singh lived a Chakkarvarti Jeevan, visiting and looking after Damdama Sahib, Anandpur Sahib and other places, but main Chhauni of Misal was at Sri Akal Takht Sahib. When Naina Singh grew old, he gave Chakkarvarti Sewa to Baba Phula Singh, who was main caretaker of Damdama Sahib and Anandpur Sahib. In 1799, as a 8,000 strong British Army camped on east bank of River Satluj, Baba Phula Singh Ji camped on west bank. One Singh reported to Babaji about the British plans to enter Punjab, which infuriated Babaji. He took out his Tega and ordered his Bhujang Singhs to get ready. Singhs asked for Babaji's orders, upon which Babaji ordered 'Chatka do' (finish them in one blow). Battle standards were raised and as the British troops approached the Bridge over Satluj, Akali warriors pounced upon them like lions. That was the first time British had seen chivalry, war-spirit and fury of Akali Nihangs. Nihang Singhs attacked British regiment and within hours, 8000 soldiers were cut down. The General, badly wounded saved his life with couple of soldiers and reported to the Governor General that till the Akalis of Punjab are strong, no one can win over Punjab. Wait till they are weakened or decimated. When news of this bravery reached Akali Baba Naina Singh ji, he was pleased so much that he chose Baba Phula Singh ji as 6th Jathedar of Misal Shaheedan.[2]
