Anna Landolt

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Anna Landolt was a Swiss pianist in the 18th century, birth and death dates unknown. Her musical talent and strength of character inspired one of the century's most influential paintings, The Nightmare, painted by Henry Fuseli in 1781.[1] The painting became a sensation in the last year of the American Revolution, six years before the French Revolution—two wars that defined inalienable rights. Fuseli depicted Landolt as the embodiment of the Ancient Greek word aletheia (ἀλήθεια), meaning revolution or rising in both the individual and society. Her figure wears the necklace of Ra, the Ancient Egyptian deity of the sun.
