Anne Laidam

Anne Laidam (born 4 November 1978) is an Estonian artist, painter and illustrator. She is based in Lisbon, Portugal since 2000. She is recognised for her "free" and "creative" style.[1]

Biography[edit]

Anne Laidam was born in 1978 in Tallinn, Estonia. She displayed a great interest and talent for art and music from an early age. She studied visual and fine arts in Pelgulinna Günaasium, Tallinna Kunstikool, and Estonian Academy of Arts, and was taught by ceramic artist Aino Saan, sculptor Anu Põder, and painter Jüri Palm. Having moved to Lisbon, Portugal in 2000, she continued her studies at National Society of Fine Arts (Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes) where she was taught by Jaime Silva. She subsequently became a member of the Society in 2014.

Anne Laidam has participated in several collective and individual exhibitions in Estonia and Portugal. She provided the cover for Jan Beltrán's 2011 book "Jumala poolt hüljatud" ( 'Forsaken by God'). [1]

National recognition

Anne Laidam's acrylic canvas piece "The Table of Power" was awarded twice in 2016, first at the Fine Art Contest in Setúbal [7] on April 3rd, receiving an Honorable Mention presented by the Mayor of Setúbal, Maria das Dores Meira [8], and again at the Sociedade Nacional de Belas Artes on December 15th [9].

The figure of Bocage - the Portuguese poet - with a provocative look, writing the famous poem "The Lion and the Pig", is sitting next to a table flanked by animals, supposedly the "Table of Power", having as its central element a fruit bowl with the figure of a lion, an allusion to the supreme power. This scene takes place in Av. Luísa Todi in Setúbal, at the transition of the XVIII / XIX centuries.
