Annette Harcus established her own graphic design studio called Harcus Design, in Sydney in 1982.[1] Her career began when she graduated from a design degree at Sydney's College of the Arts in Australia, in 1981 and was inspired by the editor of Australian Vogue, Sharon Storrier Lyneham.[2]

Biography[edit]

Annette has judged the AGDA (Australian Graphic Design Association) awards with other women in Australian graphic design including: Dianne Day, Jennifer Prosser, Annabel Shears Carter, Myrium Kin-Yee and Lynda Warner[3][4][5]. Packaging and wine labels feature in the work her studio produces[6] and have won awards including from AGDA.[7]

During her career she has made presentations on her aims and techniques as a graphic designer, including at the Tasmanian School of Art in Tasmania[8] and has been quoted as saying, "If people recognise your style, it's bad - it's not about you but the client's needs and the way you solve their problems.[9]
