Anthony Currie is a British figure-skater, choreographer, and resident coach at Ice Sheffield. With his partner Eleanor Hirst, he is the 2018 and 2021 British ice dance bronze medallist [1] and an internationally competitive figure skater, having competed at the: NRW Trophy; Bavarian Open; Egna Dance Trophy, and the Budapest Trophy [2]. Anthony and Eleanor are currently coached by Mark Hanretty, Yebin Mok, Vivienne Dean, and David Hartley [3].

Personal Life[edit]

Anthony was born in Wigan. His Father, Shaun Currie is the former Chief Superintendent of Greater Manchester Police [4]. His Mother, Helen Currie is a former Inspector of the same force, and later became a career landlord, winning 'Property Woman of the North West' in 2008 [5]. His brother is aspiring electro-pop artist "Belikemilo" [6].

Anthony was educated at Bolton School and later studied for an undergraduate in Architecture at the University of Sheffield [7]. Starting skating at 13, Anthony previously skated with Louise Smith before she left the sport due to injury [8]. Anthony then started skating with Eleanor Hirst in 2018.

From 2019-2020 Anthony was a skating double in the Netflix Young Adult series Zero Chill, and also supported the training of the actors in basic skating skills, alongside his coach David Hartley [9]. In 2021, Anthony was the subject of filming for a forthcoming BBC documentary called 'Freeze', alongside other British figure skaters including reigning British ice dance champions Lilah Fear, Lewis Gibson, and Ice Sheffield colleague and former British National Champion Peter James Hallam. Freeze is set to be released in early 2022 [10]. The documentary will examine the challenges and successes of British figure skaters, and in Anthony's case: the pressure of trying to materialise an Olympic dream.
