Antonios Karatzis (Greek: Αντώνιος Καράτζης; born 1976) is a Greek businessman. He is the Chairman of the Board and CEO..[15] of the Karatzis Group of Companies[16], a company with interests ranging from manufacturing and tourism[17], to energy production and electricity provider.
Early life, family[edit]
Antonios Karatzis is the son of the late Miltiadis Karatzis and Athena Karatzi. He was born in 1976 in Athens, Greece, and has two sisters and a brother. He was educated at the School of Tourism at Glion Institute of Higher Education in Switzerland. He is married and has 4 children.
Education[edit]
Antonios Karatzis attended the GLION School of Tourism Enterprises, Switzerland. He has an excellent knowledge of English, German, Italian as well as French and Spanish. It is constantly evolving and updated through seminars specialized in Management, Financial Analysis, Marketing, etc.
Career and family business[edit]
Antonios Karatzis started his career as a knitting machines operator at his father's[18] netting materials factory at Heraklion, Crete in 1993. He became Sales Manager for the whole Karatzis Group of Companies in 1997, and Vice CEO in 2001. During his career, he has invented and established various improvements in net and package manufacturing.[19][20]
Following the death of his father in 2015, he was named Chairman of the Karatzis Group of Companies[21]. Under his direction, his company - Karatzis S.A. Group of Companies - expanded its business interests in the Tourism and Energy industries, with the addition of the 5-star hotel Nana Princess[22] and the electricity provider company KEN[23]. Besides the local borders, Antonios Karatzis has adopted his late father's philosophy regarding the need for a company to be export-oriented[24] to be successful[25][26], and thus maintains subsidiary companies in various parts of the world (United Kingdom, Spain, Italy, Germany, Russia), with a 96% export rate for his company's industrial production (as of April 2018)[27].In 2020, "ANTKAR SOLE SHAREHOLDER SA", in which Antonis Karatzis had interests, submitted a mandatory public offer, with the aim of acquiring 100% of the shares of "Karatzis" , a company which , until the time , was listed on the ATHEX[28][29][30].During the same year, the Karatzis Group entered the field of aviation by founding Panellenic Airlines in Heraklion, Crete[31][32]. The Group’s newly established airline is characterised by high-level services, security and a pleasant working environment[33]. At the same time, the Group acquires a majority stake in the German company BSK & Lakufol Kunststoffe in Henfenfield of Germany, increasing the annual production by 4,500 tonnes[34].
The company owns photovoltaics (PV) installations in operation with a capacity of 25MW, while 272MW are under construction. In addition, the company has a pipeline with a capacity of 1.2GW. The company's portfolio also includes a wind farm in the Distomo region, which is also in operation, as well as a significant wind farm warehouse, which is to be developed in the future.
Nana Princess-Suites, Villas & Spa, owned by the Karatzis Group, is ranked among the top 1% of hotels worldwide, according to Tripadvisor users. It emerged as the 6th best hotel in the "Top Hotels" category and the 7th best in the "Best Luxury Hotels" category.
Parallel Business Activity[edit]
Since 2003 he has been holding the position of active President of the Board of Directors of PLUSPACK S.A.[35] (industrial production of plastic and recycling bags).
Since 2011 he has been a partner in Karatzis Energy (energy production from solar energy systems)[36].Until this day the Group has constructed 13 solar parks in Crete, Katerini, Larissa, Boeotia and Kefalonia, of a total capacity of 15MW.
He has also acted as CEO in Stella Polaris Creta S.A. (hotel industry) and is President of the Karatzis subsidiaries MESHPACK GMBH Germany[37] (production of packaging material), CROPPY SOLUTIONS SL Spain[38] (distribution of packaging products), ZEUS PACKAGING AGRI LTD England[39] (distribution of packaging products), KARATZIS SRL ITALIA[40], KARATZIS RUSSIA[41] with exports to over 74 countries worldwide and AG GRAFF SA[42], Greece (management of retail companies).[43][44]
Recognition & awards[edit]
Locally, he is directly involved with the Greek football club O.F.I.. He was Vice-President from June 2007 till September 2008[45]. In 2018, when O.F.I. was facing financial problems that prevented its participation in Greece's Football National League (Superleague), Antonios bought a share of the club[46][47], thus helping the club solve its economic problems. He then gifted these shares to the new President of the club, Michalis Mpousis, in 2019.[48][49]

· Recognition award by the Rotary of Heraklion, Greece (Rotary Candia)[60]
· Nana Princess welcomes the new year with 3 new distinctions[61]
Karatzis has spoken in the European Parliament twice; In 2012, in the meeting "Success Stories Made in Greece"[62], and in 2019, along members of the European Investment Bank where he gave his opinion about the need for decrease of the interest rate for Greek businesses, in order for them to remain competitive in the European and Global scene.[63][64]
Antonis Karatzis is expected to be one of the honourees at the 27th annual “Goddess Artemis Awards” ceremony, which will take place on September 25th, 2023.
Philanthropy[edit]
In 2017, Antonios Karatzis gifted the Central Hospital of Heraklion, Crete "Venizeleio" (Greek: Βενιζέλειο) with a modern endoscopic ultrasonography system for the hospital's Gastroenterological Department[65].
In 2018, Antonios saw to the purchase of a new portable ultrasound system (used for the diagnosis of maladies like cancer) and a vehicle for carrying the aforementioned system, for the non-profit organisation "Target: Prevention" (Greek: Στόχος-Πρόληψη)[66]. Goal of "Στόχος-Πρόληψη" is the diagnosis of early stages of cancer (especially Breast cancer) in Crete.
In 2023, Antonios Karatzis was recognised by the Association of the Holy Monastery of Agios Georgios Epanosifis for his long-term contribution to the realization of the Monastery’s vision. The award was presented by the Protosyncellus of the Archdiocese of Crete, Archimandrite Bartholomew.
Other properties[edit]
Antonis Karatzis is honorary consul of South Korea in the region of Crete[67] as well as is official consul of the Kingdom of Belgium in Crete.[68]
