Antony Cheng (born December 29, 1997) is a Senior Canadian and International figure skater, having won 3 National medals and one ISU Gold medal.[1]

He is the 2015 Canadian Figure Skating Championships Junior men Canadian National Silver Medalist and Coupe du Printemps Luxembourg 2016, Junior men champion.[1]

About Cheng[edit]

Antony Cheng was born on December 29, 1997 in Vancouver, British Columbia and grew up in Toronto, Ontario.[1]

Cheng has been skating since the age of 7 and represents Canada internationally in the Junior Grand Prix ranks. He is a 3X National Championship medalist and the 2016 ISU Coupe du Printemps Junior men Champion.[1][2]

Skating career[edit]

Antony Cheng began skating by playing hockey at the age seven (2005) and later switched to figure skating when he was eight in Toronto, Ontario. Over the seasons (2009-2017), Antony has achieved 3 Canadian National medals, 1 International ISU Gold medal, 1 Canadian National Challenge medal, 3 Skate U.S Open medals, 2 Ontario Winter Games titles, 10 Sectional/Provincial medals and has competed at a Junior Grand Prix, Senior Canadian Championships and the 2011 Canada Winter Games.[6][7][8][3][2][1] [9]

Antony has represented Canada, Skate Ontario and Skate British Columbia.[3]

In 2012, Cheng claimed the Pre-Novice Canadian Championship title, the following year he won the bronze medal at the Novice Canadian Championships, and in 2015, after finishing 3rd at the Skate Canada Chellange, went on and became the Junior Canadian National Silver medalist.[1][10][3]

Cheng made his international debut representing Canada in 2015 where he finished 13th at the Junior Grand Prix in USA and won his first international ISU gold medal at the Coupe Du Printemps, Luxembourg 2016 in Junior.[10][8]

In 2015, Cheng also made his senior debut in Canada.[3]

In the summer of 2016, Cheng moved to Champs International and switched to skate out of BC/YK and finished 3rd at the BC/YK Sectional Championships and 8th at the Skate Canada Challenge earning a spot at the 2017 Senior National Championships where he finished 18th out of 21 in all of Canada.[4]

In the 2017-2018 season, Cheng competed at the Skate U.S Senior Golden West Championships in Los Angeles. His first senior international event where he finished with the silver medal, ranking the highest among the Canadians.[7]
