Arabidopsis thaliana Niederzenz-1

From EverybodyWiki Bios & Wiki

Niederzenz-1 (Nd-1) is a German accession of the species Arabidopsis thaliana. It was first described in 1987.[1]. The name of this accession is assumed to indicate the location, where it was isolated. However, there is no village or city named 'Niederzenz' in central Europe.

During the investigation of genome differences within a plant species, Nd-1 was studied by generation of expressed sequence tags[2]. Therefore, this accession was later included in the 1001 Genomes Project. There are some obvious differences in comparison to the widely used accession Columbia-0 (Col-0). The deletion of a gene involved in the development of flowers, flowering locus M (At1g77080), leads to an earlier flowering under short day conditions[3]. A beneficial mutation in RRS1 (At5g45260) provides resistance against Ralstonia solanacearum[4]. Recently, the genome sequence of Nd-1 was released[5] together with an comparison against the Col-0 reference sequence[6][7]
