Aric S. Queen (August 2, 1976) is an American author, photographer, former radio host, former producer of the internationally renowned ChinesePod (named one of 2006’s Top Ten Podcast by Time Magazine),[1] and memoirist. He is best known for his revolutionary podcast, The Shanghai Diaries, in which Queen was subsequently dubbed as the leader of Shanghai’s “creative rebirth.”[2]

In 2008, Shanghai Diaries earned Queen the 2008 “Most Prolific Vlogger Award,[2] which has now been combined with his travel/lifestyle show titled “Shanghai [Exile] Diaries. In 2011, he penned the details of his subsequent exile from China due to his controversial media in the memoir Shanghai [Exile] Diaries. [4]

Early Life[edit]

Queen was born [1976] and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma to a Baptist Minister. He graduated from Metro Christian Academy [1995] and immediately began work at KMYZ-FM [Z104.5] as an overnight deejay. He stayed in radio until the fall of 1999 when we was fired due to a pending slander lawsuit. From there he traveled extensively through Europe for 4 years before ending up in Beijing, China in the spring of 2003. After one year there, he then moved to Shanghai.

Aric S. Queen, previous American Clear Channel radio/television host, former executive producer of ChinesePod.com (named one of the “Top 10 Podcasts” by Time Magazine, 2006), GigShanghai and Soul Fire Radio, executive producer of the Johnson & Johnson “Bao Bao Radio” series, director/producer of “theshanghaishow” and “Urban Yoga.” Having been named the leader of Shanghai’s “Creative’s Class,” he established an artist platform in Shanghai, producing shorts on Shanghainese bands and writing for Shanghaiist and China’s City. His previous Current TV daily vlogs sent to US and UK televisions titled “Shanghai Diaries” earned him the 2008 “Most Prolific Vlogger Award” and has now been combined with his Current TV travel/lifestyle show, “Shanghai [Exile] Diaires”, which has been made into a memoir, The Shanghai [Exile] Diaries.
