Armando Monteiro (31 March 1950 – 22 October 2008) was a Brazilian professional footballer who played as a forward.[2][3]

Club career[edit]

Monteiro arrived in Paris from Brazil in 1973. He tried out for Paris Saint-Germain after speaking to the coach at the time, Just Fontaine. Fontaine decided to keep Monteiro and give him a contract after a training session in which he displayed "correct technique".[4]

Armando played his first match with PSG on 27 October 1973, a 5–1 league win over Gueugnon. He scored in the 44th minute of his debut match.[5] On 10 November, Monteiro played and scored in a league match against Red Star, the first game ever played by Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes. His goal, scored from a header, was the second goal ever scored at the stadium by the club.[6]

Monteiro made his Coupe de France debut on 16 December 1973 in a 1–0 win against Chartres.[7] He played his final match for the Parisian club on 20 January 1974 against Angoulême, a 2–2 draw in which he scored the opening goal.[8]

International career[edit]

Before coming to France, Monteiro was a youth international for Brazil.[4]

After football[edit]

After his football career, Monteiro went to live in the south of France. He became the leader of a Samba group, and created a disk of Brazilian music.[9]

Armando Monteiro died on 22 October 2008.
