The Army Field Support Battalion - Qatar or AFSBn-QA is a Field Support battalion of the United States Army. The Battalion was created in September 2001 and flagged as the Combat Equipment Battalion-Qatar (CEB-QA) and officially activated at Camp As Sayliyah, Qatar to provide contract oversight for Army Prepositioned Stocks (APS).[1]

History[edit]

As the Army Materiel Command (AMC) and the Army Sustainment Command (ASC) launched their transformation campaign in May 2005, the CEB-QA was officially re-designated as the AFSBn-QA. In May 2007, the unit was re-designated as a numbered battalion, 1st Battalion, 401st Army Field Support Brigade (AFSB). In November 2009, it was reorganized under the 402nd AFSB. In August 2011, it was again re-designated as the AFSBn-QA and remains so today. In July 2015, the 401st AFSB resumed command of AFSBn-QA as the 402nd AFSB redeployed to Hawaii.

The AFSBn-QA’s historical war effort contributions include: the replacement and issue of PATRIOT Systems worldwide and the launching of a National Tire Assembly Repair Program, the establishment and expansion of both a program manager (PM) STRYKER Depot Level Battle Damage Repair Facility, a PM Hellfire forward test and repair facility, and the extension of the maintenance repair and return capability to support and re-distribute theater equipment. Many of these programs achieved important mile-stones in these operations which exerted significant strategic impact on mission success.

Mission[edit]

The AFSBn-QA's mission sustains the war fighting readiness of APS-5 equipment, 10 operational project (OPROJ) stocks, and War Reserve Secondary Item (WRSI) stocks in support of the Combatant Commander and for use during contingency operations. It also provides tenant and area unit maintenance support and air/sea/land transportation support as well. This APS mission concept has been put to test numerous times since 2001. Successful and timely APS support has provided multiple units with critical, combat multiplier equipment and OPROJ stocks. In addition to sustaining the APS mission, the AFSBn-QA has supported diverse logistical efforts in support of Operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, New Dawn, Operation Inherent Resolve and the currently evolving Operation Freedom’s Sentinel.[2]
