Ashwin Vinayagamoorthy (Tamil Pronunciation: Ashwiṉ vināyakamūrtti; born 5 September 1993) is an Indian film composer and music producer predominantly working in the Tamil film industry. His first film as music director was Yaadhumagi Nindraai in 2017.[1][2]
Early Life[edit]
Ashwin was born in Chennai, India. He is the son of Vinayagamoorthy, a businessman and audiophile. His father’s interest in music influenced him to be an avid consumer of film music during his school years at DAV Mogappair. Over time it led him to pursue a Recording Arts degree at Full Sail University in Florida.[3][1]
Career[edit]
His music career kickstarted with him being an apprentice to GV Prakash towards the end of his high school. During this period he also worked on his first independent album titled “Love Like No Other” which saw its release in 2011. He continued his work on various commercial and independent releases through high school after which he left to pursue his degree at Full Sail University, Florida.[3][1]
He came back and set-up the premiere studio and music production facility, Shimmr Studios in Chennai.[1] He began his work as a music director in the Tamil industry shortly after, with his first film Yadhumaagi Nindrai (2017) featuring dance master Gayathri Raghuram as producer, director and actor.[1] The album featured actor Dhanush[1][2] in one of the songs and it was released under the actor’s label Wunderbar Studios. He then signed a second film titled Vidhi Madhi Ultaa (2017) which was released under Sony Music India.[4][5][1]
Independent/Music Production[edit]
Apart from his film work, Ashwin has been establishing himself as a music producer for a range of independent artists from India and the US. His studio, along with its team, produces for artists in a variety of genres including Pop, Alternative Rock, Psychedelic Rock, Hip-Hop, Post Modern and Metal.
