The Asian Society for Engineering Education (AsiaSEE), founded in 2019, is the first Asian regional network of higher educational institutions leaders with commitment to improve engineering education.[1] The vision of AsiaSEE is to be the trusted body in Asia to facilitate communications and cooperation in engineering education between members, institutions, industries, stakeholders and like-minded societies in the world.[2] The mission of AsiaSEE is to contribute to the advancement and enhancement in engineering education via research and practice for the future generation.[2]

In developing and developed countries, engineering is by far one of the most important disciplines for a knowledge economy. And this is often supported by a united continental society of engineering education such as the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE), European Society for Engineering Education (SEFI) and Australasian Association for Engineering Education (A2E2). But in Asia, there is an absence of such society. And thus, there has been a lack of coherence and collaboration in engineering education across Asia. With the commitment from the founding president, and support of many universities, institutions and societies, AsiaSEE was formed in 2019.

Leadership and Organisation[edit]

The Founding Chairperson/President of AsiaSEE is Dr. Cecilia K.Y. Chan, the Head of Professional Development and Associate Professor of the Centre for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning at the University of Hong Kong.[3]

The Founding Vice Chairperson/Vice-President of AsiaSEE is Prof. Haydn H.D. Chen, the Distinguished Chair Professor of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at National Chiao Tung University, as well as the Professor Emeritus of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urban-Champaign.[3]

Founding Members[edit]

AsiaSEE is founded by over twenty leaders from higher education institutions across Asia, including China, Hong Kong, India, Macau, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, TaiwanThailand, the Philippines, United Arab Emirates and Vietnam.[1]

AsiaSEE's strong network drives policy, implementation and theory in engineering education in Asia and beyond by working together among engineering educators, researchers and industries.[1]
