Asif Chaudry

Asif Chaudry is a British Robotic Cancer Surgeon (Surical Oncologist), specialised in Oesophageal and Gastric cancer. He performed the first Robotic Oesophageal cancer surgery in the UK using the Da Vinci Xi robot in 2016 at The Royal Marsden, the world's oldest Cancer Hospital (founded in 1851). The Marsden together with the Institute of Cancer Research forms the largest comprehensive cancer institute in Europe and is one of the foremost cancer institutions in the world.

HRH Prince William, The Duke of Cambridge, visited The Royal Marsden and observed Robotic Oesophageal Cancer Surgery with Chaudry in January 2018, becoming the first member of a royal to have observed such surgery.[1][2]

He was born in London and educated at Wadham College, Oxford where he was awarded an scholarship and qualified from Oxford University with distinction in 1999. Chaudry is the editor of the Surgical Oncology (Oxford University Press), Gastric and Oesophageal Surgery (Oxford University Press) and senior editor of Clinical Surgery (Elsevier)[3]

He is a founding member of the International Upper GI Robotic Association: UGIRA, founded in Geneva, 2017[4] and the European Gastric Cancer Association, founded in São Paulo, Brazil as part of the International Gastric Cancer Association in 2015. He participates in translational cancer research at the Royal Marsden and Institute of Cancer research and is joint lead investigator for the ICONIC trial, the first perioperative immunotherapy trial for oesophageal cancer in a curative setting.

He is the grandson of Chaudry Mohammad Aslam the Chairman of the 1963 Boundary Commission for the Sino-Pakistan Agreement between China and Pakistan that established the Trans-Karakoram boundary that is now pivotal in the China Pakistan Economic Corridor, CPEC.
