Legal Issues and Public Incidents[edit]
Ataah King's career has been impacted by two notable legal incidents.
2018 Incident[edit]
In 2018, Ataah was involved in a high-speed pursuit on Interstate 95 while driving through Virginia, after an officer attempted to pull him over for an inspection sticker violation.
It is reported that during the pursuit, Ataah struck two Virginia State Police vehicles before losing control of his car and crashing into an embankment.
He fled the scene on foot, but was apprehended shortly thereafter.
Ataah was taken into custody at Pamunkey Regional Jail and charged with resisting arrest, hit-and-run, felony assault on law enforcement, and reckless driving.
2022 Incident[edit]
In November 2022, Ataah was involved in another high-profile legal issue while traveling to New York.
On November 16, 2022, Ataah was pulled over by Hillsville police in Carroll County, Virginia, following a lane violation.
Ataah, in a state of apprehension due to concerns over police mistreatment and still experiencing PTSD from his last encounter, drove off and was later stopped by police after a PIT maneuver.
Ataah was arrested and alleged that officers used excessive force during his arrest, including pulling his hair and punching him.
Ataah spent 2 months in jail, during which time he lost his job and had to cancel performances.
He faced multiple charges, including resisting arrest and assault on an officer, though many charges were later dropped.
The incident drew attention from The Black Wall Street Times and highlighted concerns over police treatment of Black individuals.
