The daughter of writer Mary Ann Beattie, Jeannie Lockett was born in Bathurst, New South Wales, Australia in 1847. The couple lived in Sidney after she married Thomas Lockett of Wagga Wagga. Lockett was a teacher, writer, and ardent feminist. Only one of Lockett's novels was published (posthumously) in England, Judith Grant (1892). In 1890, she passed away in Sydney.
