H.M. Tauhid Anwar Avik (Bengali: এইচ এম তৌহিদ আনোয়ার অভীক)[1][2], better known as Avik Anwar,[3] is a Bangladeshi motorsport racer, Youtuber, internet personality,[4] automotive businessman and journalist.[5] He's Bangladesh's first and as of September 2022, only international motorsport champion from the country.[6][7][8][9] Anwar is considered as one of the pioneers of automobile racing in Bangladesh.[10][11] He was inducted in the list of The outstanding achievements of Bangladeshis in 2021 by The Daily Star.[12]

Career

Car racing

In 2006, Anwar moved to Canada for track driving practice. He returned to Bangladesh after a few years and began his professional racing career by participating and winning the group C of the Rallycross Championship held in Bangladesh, three years in a row from 2014-2016.[13] Anwer received his Formula One track driving license in 2016, which was issued from Canada.[14][15] In 2019 he won in the Volkswagen Amio Cup, an international racing tournament held in India.[16] Anwar raced in the 2019 Malaysia Championship series, which held in the Sepang International Circuit, and won a bronze medal by coming 3rd in the fourth round, making himself the first Bangladeshi to win an international trophy from a racing event which was held in a Formula One track. [17][18] According to The Business Standard, Anwar is Bangladesh's first-ever professional endurance racer,[19] He did a 9-hour long endurance race in the 2019 Malaysian Sepang 1000 km race.[20]

In 2021, Anwar became the first ever Bangladeshi to both have raced and won an international racing event which is approved by the FIA, by winning the UAE Pro Championship GT86 Class.[21][22][23][24]

In March 2022, Anwar became the first Bangladeshi to win an international motorsport racing tournament, by winning the NGK Pro Car Championship in Dubai, UAE. He finished the tournament accumulating 310 points, which was 119 points ahead of the second-placed Scott Dimeler.[8]

In July 2022, Anwar won back back-to-back podiums the third round of the Malaysia Championship Series.[25][26]

Automotive business

Anwar owns and directs Car House Ltd., an international car dealership operating in Bangladesh.[27][28]

Automotive journalism

Anwar is the host and co-creator of Driven TV, a popular Bangladeshi web-based motor show.[29]
