Azim Afif bin Ishak was born on December 31, 1988 and raised in Kulim, Kedah. Azim is a consultant, inspirational speaker and mountaineer and adventurer.

UTM Everest Mission 2016[edit]

The idea to climb to the summit of Mount Everest (8,848 meters) beginning in 2010 at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.

Azim as the Expedition Leader and his team plan to climb to the summit of Mount Everest in 2014. But due to the avalanche[3] in the Khumbu Ice Fall, route to Camp 1 on 18 April 2014, the expedition had to be postponed and turning back to Malaysia.

In 2015, Azim and his team continued to climb Mount Everest as the team got free climbing permit[4] by the Nepal government. But on 25 April 2015, an earthquake[5] measuring 7.3 scale Richter struck in Nepal. Approximately 10,000 people were killed in the city and 18 people died in the Everest Base Camp. Nepal declared a state of emergency and all the climbing expeditions to Mount Everest canceled on safety aspects. Azim and the team once again turning back to Malaysia with heavy hearts.

With a strong spirit, Azim who was appointed as a consultant, coach and expedition leader, he change the route to climb Everest from the Nepal (South) to Tibet (North) in 2016. As he had an experience climbing in Tibet to Mount Cho Oyu in 2014.

On May 23, 2016 at 11.20 am, Azim successfully reached the top of Mount Everest through Tibet route, China. Along with Azim is Farul Aidib bin Mahamad Yusoff, who is also a student at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia.[6][7][8]
