BIG KERALA ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS[edit]

About the Awards[edit]

The Big Kerala Awards were instituted in 2011 by the Facebook Fraternity of Kerala. While being the most literate state in India, the State of Kerala was found sadly lacking in Industrial and Commercial initiatives. The cultural front, while being rated as among the best, often relied on resources from other states to highlight the unique talents in Kerala. Even the film industry which has boasted of multiple national level recognition had to rely on the film studios and other infrastructure in Chennai. The state was a consumer state, relying heavily on industrial and commercial output from other states.

This was attributed to the social outlook of the general population, which was almost completely in search for Government jobs and the lack of Social or Political encouragement to entrepreneurship. A white collar job was the ultimate dream of post independence era in Kerala. However, in the nineties this started changing with the advent of Television and Computer and the young had a wider option of dreams. What was needed was a shot in the arm, in the way of Public Recognition and Rewards. The feeble attempt by the various Governments failed to address this serious defect.

Social media helped in getting like thinking minds together, and that was the way it worked in Kerala. Facebook Fraternities that thought along the lines of encouraging Industry, commerce, art, culture and social welfare, came together to form the Big Kerala Awards General Jury. The General Jury over the internet choose and voted on various deserving Awardees and a final list was presented to the Final Jury. The Final Jury, who choose to remain anonymous for reasons of impartial judgement, would choose the very best for the Awards.

The first venue chosen for the Award night was Dubai. Kerala had and continues to have a large expatriate presence in UAE. The current prosperity and growth of the state owes a lot to this group and it was thought of as an ideal place to hold the inaugural Awards Night there. The grand success and popularity of this resulted in the same city being chosen for the second award night as well.

Awards Night 2011[edit]

The inaugural Award night was held on 8 December 2011 at the Al Nasr Leisureland. The function was very well attended and the who's who of Dubai expat community, along with the distinguished Awardees graced the night. Dubai witnessed the awarding of the inaugural Big Kerala Awards some of the greatest names in Malayalam Films, Literature, Industry and Social Welfare.

Colours of the night[edit]

The grand function of awarding stalwarts of Kerala was punctuated by colours and sounds of cultural Kerala. Not mention unavoidable and hugely popular comedy shows humourous skits. The current king of Malayalam Comedy Suraj Venjarammood and his team kept the crowd in splits with comical shows and slapstick humour. The air reverberated with the musical notes of Biju Narayan, Anuradha Sreeram, Ranjini Jose and Anwar Sadat. Dance shows that captured the imagination of the young were performed by Roma, Namitha and Shamna Khasim.

The programme was live telecast by SURYA TV and the event managed by DNA Creatives Global.

The Big Kerala Awards Night 2015[edit]

The economic recession of that hit Globally, hit the award functions too. The planned function for 2013 was put off for two years and Big Kerala Awards were held again in 2015. The night saw thw bestowing of the Big Kerala Awards on some of the brightest shining light in the horizon. The award night was conducted at Atlantis @ The Palm in Dubai, during the cool climes of December.

The Night that followed[edit]

As usual, no award nite is complete without the entertainment that follows. Comedy, dance and music filled the night skies above Dubai. The venue chosen was Atlantis. The program was telecast by Media One. The program was organised and Managed by M/s DNA Creatives Global.
