Baderi is a village and a gram panchayat in Umaria district in the state of Madhya Pradesh, India. Situated 5 kilometers from Umaria on Umaria-Bandhavgarh road. Agriculture is the occupation of majority of villagers. There is a Government Senior Secondary School, a girl school and a Central Academy school. Bagheli and Hindi are spoken throughout the village.

Bandhavgarh National Park is very close from this village. Bandhavgarh national park is one of the wild life sanctuaries in state of Madhya Pradesh, situated at 26 km away from Baderi village.

It has pincode 484661. It is located 23.9512 latitude and 81.05089 longitude.

History[edit]

Baderi was ruled by Lodhi (Malgujars) dynasty. Later on Baderi was won by Baghels of Rewa. Baderi was a pawai (estate) ruled by Baghela dynasty under the flag of Rewa Riyasat. In 17th century, estate of Baderi was granted to Kunwar Ahlad Singh, son of Raja Fakir Singh of Chandia and 5th in descent of Maharaja Vikramaditya of Rewa. He got the title of Thakur Saheb with 28 villages. He built a palace called Nand Mahal and after many years, his great-grandson Ranmat Singh won the fort of Baderi from Lodhis (Malgujars).

As of 2011 India census, Baderi had a population of 2,314. Males are 1,194 and females are 1.120.

Nand Mahal

Nand Mahal

Nand Mahal was made by Thakur Ranmat Singh Ji in 16th century as residence of Baghela army and it was also a army headquarter of Rewah riyasat. It was situated on mountains so it was also used as surveillance of Bandhavgarh Fort and also used as hunting site for royal princes. Maa Shakti was also situated here. According to legends, this mountain has a miraculous rock which was written in some secret language, if anyone can read it he could get food for seven days. That is why Baderi was a hub of kitchen stuff for Rewa riyasat.

Old palace of Nand Mahal is totally demolished. Now, the goddess was named as Nand Mahal Mata. The mountain is famous for its magnificent Nand mahal Mata Temple and its natural beauty. A annual fair is held on the mountain by the local people on the occasion of Makar Sankranti.

Baderi Fort

Fortress of Baderi is situated on some height in mid of village. It is known as Garhi in locality. It had four siege towers (called Kothis) out of which only one is remaining. Fortress has three courtyards dedicated to three different gods i.e. Kaal Bhairav, Lord Narasimha and Kuldevta of Baghels.

Phoolmati Mata Mandir

Goddess Phoolmati is a form of Maa Durga. Phoolmati Devi is the Gram devi of Baderi village.

Maheshwar Mahadev Temple

Maheshwar Mahadev temple is known as Khonga in locality. The shivling was installed here by Lal Mahesh Pratap Singh. After him, it is named Maheshwar Mahadev. It is about 200 years old. It is located next to the waterfall, on the bank of river surrounded by exquisite natural beauty. It is believed that during heavy rain, a coin kept on shivling can never move by heavy flow of river through it. Every year, a fair is held by the people of nearby villages on the occasion of Vasant Panchami.
