Bandit is an upcoming 2022 biographical crime film directed by Allan Ungar and written by Kraig Wenman..[1] The film is based on the life of Gilbert Galvan Jr, who successfully escaped from a Michigan prison and crossed the border into Canada where he went on to rob 63 banks and jewelry stores while being hunted by a rogue police task force. Galvan still holds a record for the most consecutive robberies in Canadian history. [2]

On October 30, 2020 it was announced that Josh Duhamel would star as Gilbert Galvan in an adaptation of Robert Knuckle's book "The Flying Bandit", based on the life of Galvan.[3] [4]. On May 19, 2021, Mel Gibson and Elisha Cuthbert joined the cast with filming set to take place in Georgia. [5]. On June 15, 2021 it was reported that Nestor Carbonell had joined the cast as a detective hunting Duhamel's character. [6]


Filming was originally planned to take place in Vancouver and Ottawa but due to the Covid-19 pandemic, production was relocated to Georgia with the state doubling for Canada. Principal photography took place in May and June of 2021 throughout Southern Georgia.. Film crews were spotted in Valdosta on June 9, 2021[7]
