Barnana is an organic banana based snack brand founded by Nik Ingersoll, Caue Suplicy, and Matthew Clifford.[1][2][3][4][5][6] It was launched in 2012 and is headquartered in Santa Monica, California.[7][8][9]Their products include dried organic banana bites, banana brittle and plantain chips.[10][11][12][13]They are a certified B Corp.[6][5][14]

Barnana raised $300K in seed funding and another $5.3 million in 2017.[15][6][7][16][9][17]

Their packaging received the GDUSA design award.[18]

Production[edit]

The company upcycles rejected bananas from USDA Certified Organic and Non- GMO Project Verified banana and plantain farms in Latin America.[6][12][11][14] Banana Bites are first heated gently to remove the water content and then chopped into smaller pieces.[15][6][7] Dehydrating is done in Latin America which is then shipped to California for packing.[15] Barnana products are organic and do not contain preservatives, colors, gluten or GMO’s.[15][6][8][19][14]

The banana peels are dried, pressed into pellets and used for powering the dehydration ovens.[6]
