Barun Agarwal[edit]

Barun Agarwal is a reputed investor residing in Hong Kong. He is the Founder and Principal of Factorial Management Limited, an asset management firm based in Hong Kong and regulated by the Hong Kong Securities and Finance Commission.

Investing style and track record[edit]

Barun's investment approach is bottom-up multi-asset investing across Asia.

Factorial fund started investing in 2012. Till 2022, it has generated positive net returns each and every year since it's launch.

Factorial fund is not targeted towards retail investors. It accepts investments only from sophisticated investors.

Early life and training[edit]

Barun was born and raised in HEC Colony, an engineering township in Ranchi, India. He attended St. Thomas School and St. Xavier's College in Ranchi. He excelled in academics (especially Mathematics) and got admission to the reputed Indian Statistical Institute (ISI), Kolkata. After graduating from there, he went to Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Bangalore to do his MBA-equivalent.

During graduation from ISI Kolkata, he was the Sports Convenor in his second year, and the General Affairs Convenor (the highest student post) in his third year.

Given his interest in Mathematics and Finance, after completing his MBA, he joined the finance industry in Mumbai. After working in reputed firms like ICICI Bank, Salomon Smith Barney (Citigroup) and JPMorgan, he moved to Hong Kong to join an American fund. That is where he honed his skills in multi-asset multi-strategy investing.

Personal life[edit]

Barun lives with his family in Hong Kong. He is passionate about sports, music and philanthropy. He is active in running (including having run several marathons) and cricket (he is a member of the Hong Kong Cricket Club). He is an avid singer having performed both classical and film songs on stage. He is actively involved in various philanthropic activities, especially related to education and nourishment of poor children in Indian villages.
