Bayo Olupohunda is a digital media journalist, author and editor.[1] He was an intern and later worked as a freelance features writer with The Guardian, Nigeria.[2]

Career[edit]

Bayo Olupohunda born (Abayomi Festus Olupohunda) is a Nigerian author, writer, editor and journalist whose media experience cuts across online and the print media. His writings and research have been published in major Nigerian newspapers and online platforms.

He started his media career as an intern and later as freelance Features writer with The Guardian Nigeria. He was a Metro columnist with NEXT newspaper and later moved to Punch newspaper as Op-Ed columnist. His writings have earned him both local and international media awards and nominations. He was a CNN African Journalist of the Year Awards finalist.

He was a finalist at the West Africa Media Awards in Health Reporting and in Informed Commentary at the Diamond Awards for Media Excellence (DAME Awards)

In 2019, he was listed among 100 Most Influential People in Nigerian Politics by YNaija Media.

In 2020, Bayo was listed among Nigeria's 100 Most Influential Media Personalities by Ynaija Media.

He is the author of the non-fiction collection Are You Not A Nigerian? (Narrative Landscape). He was former editor-in-chief of Legit.ng (former Naij.com. He currently works as the editor-in-chief at [https://www.opera.com/ Opera News Nigeria].

Early Life[edit]

Olupohunda was born in Okitipupa in Ondo State of Nigeria. He worked for many years as an educator at Whitesands School, Lagos, Nigeria

Are you not a Nigerian? In 2017, he published his first non-fiction book, Are You Not a Nigerian? The book is a collection of nonfiction essays on the Nigerian condition, some of them satirical. These essays x-ray the Nigerian condition and highlight the many problems we face as a people.

In 2018, the book was reviewed by several literary and journals and was taken on tour and featured at Ake Literary festival

Awards/Nominations[edit]

In 2014, Bayo was nominated for the CNN/Multi-choice African Journalist of the Year Award. The event was held in Tanzania. He was a finalist at the West Africa Media Awards in Health Reporting and in Informed Commentary at the (DAME Awards) Diamond Awards for Media Excellence. In 2019, he was listed among 100 Most Influential People in Nigerian Politics by YNaija Media.In 2020, Bayo was listed among Nigeria's 100 Most Influential Media Personalities by Ynaija Media.
