Beautiful News is a good news content platform that releases one short film a day. It aims to tell authentic stories that reflect the good in humanity.
Beautiful News South Africa[edit]
Beautiful News launched in South Africa on 1 November 2016..[1]. Since then it has continued to release positive South African stories on a daily basis. Its stories are published at 4:14pm, in recognition of the moment in time that Nelson Mandela was released from prison[2].
Year 1[edit]
In its first year, Beautiful News reached a social media audience of 57.6 million in over 67 countries for 65 million views. Research conducted over this time showed that 70% of the sample audience felt hopeful about the future of South Africa after viewing Beautiful News, compared to 47% pre-exposure[3].
Year 2[edit]
Beautiful News continued to grow in year two, with its audience on Facebook reaching 500 000. Its stories received 25 million views in the first three months of 2018[4].

Beautiful News is primarily a digital platform distributed on Facebook, Instagram and its official website. Supporting distribution takes place on TV, radio, in transit, and out of home through partnerships with a number of outlets.[5]

Social Impact[edit]
Exposure resulting from Beautiful News has helped a number of individuals profiled on the platform. Examples include La-eeqah Jansen, the barefoot runner who was approached by the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls for a scholarship opportunity, as well as Charmaine Mrwebi, a self-published author[6] who was invited to speak in front of South Africa’s parliament after Beautiful News published her story. Mandisi Sindo, an actor based in the township of Khayelitsha, secured a meeting with the MEC for the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport. In August 2018, Yaseen Abrahams,, a taxi operator offering free rides to the elderly, had his story played on the Koketso Sachane Show on Cape Talk. A listener who heard the story phoned in and offered to buy Abrahams his own taxi[7]
