The Congregation of the church traces it roots back to 1848 in Appleton, Wisconsin.[1] It was the first church established in Appleton, Wisconsin.
The building[edit]
The church is located within the Appleton Historic city park district. Groundbreaking took place on July 16, 1924 the total building measures 60,000 Sq. ft building and is made from ashlar, limestone, and sandstone quarried in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. The 1924 building is 35,000 Sq ft while the three story 1960s educational wing added an additional 25,000 sq ft to the structure.The interior beams of the sanctuary are oak and are characteristic of the Tudor Gothic style. the Gothic style lanterns are made of Wrought iron. In 2009 carillon bells were installed in the building[2]. The construction cost in 1924 was estimated to be $350,000 or equivalent to $5.15 million in 2018[3]
Capital Campaign[edit]
In 2017 the Congregation decided to undertake at $1.85 million Capital campaign to address structural and general maintenance repairs that needed to be completed or started.[4] The campaign is expected to fund raise money to complete tuck pointing, installation of new windows, Doors and adding Air conditioning to several parts of the original building. 5% of the total money was donated to Habitat for Humanity to build a home.
Organ[edit]
The organ was completed and built by the Austin Organ company of Hartford, Connecticut in 1925. At the time of installation it was the largest organ in Wisconsin. Today it remains one of the only 4 manual organs in the area. The organ contains 4 main divisions.[5]The organ was rebuilt in 2001 by Austin Organs.The organ is estimated to have cost between $30,000-35,000 in 1924, about $430,000 in 2018.[6] As of 2018 the principal organist was Kathy Orth[7]
